'Zero interest in recovering the stolen goods': Thieves tried to siphon petrol from a bus but picked the wrong tank... and ended up with a mouth full

Would-be thieves who were trying to siphon petrol from a tourist bus got more than they bargained for when they tapped the sewage tank.

The unidentified oppurtunists spotted the parked bus in Laverton, central West Australia, in the middle of the night.

But when they tried to steal the fuel the mystery offenders got a nasty surprise – a mouthful of raw sewage.

Police discovered the unsavoury mix-up when they found a discarded cap next to the bus which had none of its fuel stolen, reports Yahoo.

'We can infer they beat a very hasty retreat, with a somewhat bitter taste in their mouth, ' said Laverton Police Sen. Sgt Heath Soutar.

He said they had 'have absolutely zero interest' in recovering the stolen goods, but they were seeking the offenders.

Sen. Sgt Soutar said he hoped 'word of mouth' would lead them to the unidentified gang.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted West Australian police for comment.
