In “Around the NFC North” we take a look at the Detroit LIons’ divisional rivals to see how they performed in the previous week and how it affects the race for the NFC North crown. Bears lose in overtime on last second field goal to the Dolphins Authentic Ziggy Ansah Jersey , 31-28Boy was the schadenfreude heavy in this battle between two teams that actively tried to give the game away. The Bears had a rough start to the game scoring a goose egg in the first half, but only trailed by seven as their defense settled down and contained Brock Osweiler—who got the nod over an injured Ryan Tannehill—and the rest of the Dolphins’ offense. Results from Windy City Gridiron’s Week 7 FanPulse survey. The Bears would come roaring out of the gates at the start of the second half and quickly scored 14 unanswered points. But despite the resurgence from the Bears offense, Brock Osweiler, yes Brock Osweiler, managed to trade blows against the vaunted Bears defense with the help of Albert Wilson, who hauled in six catches for an impressive 155 yards and two touchdowns. When the Bears held the Dolphins offense toward the end of regulation, instead of calling a timeout to get the ball for about a minute and 30 seconds, they decided to let the clock run out instead and play for overtime. They would also get the ball into Dolphins territory in overtime after a strike of luck when Miami fumbled the ball at Chicago’s the 1-yard line, and instead of continuing their push downfield, the Bears decided to play for the 53-yard field goal and missed that, too. Miami finally put the game away on the following possession on a game winning 50-yard field goal on the foot of their rookie kicker, Jason Sanders. This was really the first time that the Bears defense had looked vulnerable all year, and boy did they look bad. On the offensive side of the ball, Mitchell Trubisky had a nice game on the statsheet, but that doesn’t include the two or three throws that were nearly intercepted and could have spelled an early disaster for them. And it wasn’t just him, as Jordan Howard and Tarik Cohen also had costly turnovers. On the positive side for the Bears, Kyle Fuller is still really good as a No. 1 cornerback and notched two interceptions. Tarik Cohen also looks electric and aside from his costly fumble, I thought he had a great game. Another player that impressed me was Taylor Gabriel, who has proven to be a nice addition to the Bears offense. I fear what he might do to Nevin Lawson this year. Next game: vs Patriots (3-2)Vikings dance their way to victory over Cardinals, 27-17The Cardinals held a lead very briefly halfway through the first quarter, but the Vikings would come soaring back with a touchdown of their own and never looked back. Latavius Murray had himself a career game with 155 rushing yards and a touchdown on 25 carries and Adam Thielen kept up his dominance, hauling in 11 receptions for 123 yards and a TD for himself. The man with the moves, Kirk Cousins, didn’t have the best statistical game—aside from a nice 6.9 yards per attempt—but he did have a rushing touchdown.Good for Kirk.Dan Bailey Womens Michael Roberts Jersey , the Vikings’ new kicker was a perfect 2-for-2 on field goals and 3-for-3 on extra points which is just very unlike Vikings kickers and I’m beginning to fear that they might finally be good on all three phases of the ball again. Let’s just hope that the defense doesn’t go back to dominating. Next game: at Jets (3-3)Don’t sleep on the Jets. They might not have the best resume, but this could be a trap game for the Vikings.Mason Crosby redeems himself on game-winning field goal, Packers win 33-30 against 49ersThis was about as back-and-forth as it gets, especially for a primetime “Monday Night Football” game. Just six minutes into the first quarter, each team marched their way down the field for an early seven points and the scoring would not let up. The 49ers offense got the best of the Packers for most of the game and held the lead all the way to the end, until they didn’t. Rodgers was his old self despite his injury and spun the ball for a whopping 425 yards and two touchdowns on 46 attempts. He was more clutch than he has normally been throughout his career, capping the game off with a 10-play, 81-yard drive that led to a game-winning field goal from Mason Crosby. Crosby was a perfect 4-for-4 on field goals and 3-for-3 on extra points—an obviously huge improvement over his performance last week against the Lions. Next game (10/28): at Rams (6-0)The Packers needed that win against the 49ers, as they head into their bye week, and then prepare for a difficult set of back-to-back road games against the Rams and Patriots. NFC North Week 6 standings1. Chicago Bears (3-2)2. Green Bay Packers (3-2-1)3. Minnesota Vikings (3-2-1)4. Detroit Lions (2-3)After a bye week, the Lions remain at the bottom of the NFC North, but this was still a successful week for them, as they’re only one game back from the lead currently. The Bears face a tough opponent in the Patriots next week, while the Vikings face a possible trap game on the road against the Jets. If the Lions manage to beat the Dolphins in Miami, there is a real chance that they could position themselves to possibly take lead of the North within a couple weeks, as long as they keep winning. We’ll see.Detroit Lions Week 5 player of the game: 5 Game Ball candidates vs. Packers The Detroit Lions got a huge win on Sunday, pushing the team to 2-3 and 1-0 in the division. It took a lot of individual efforts for the Lions to pull off the upset over the Green Bay Packers, so that’s why we have our weekly Game Ball poll.If you’re new to game ball, the concept is simple: I give you five candidates for player of the game and you vote on them. Winner gets three points, second place gets two points, and third place gets a single point. We keep track of the Game Ball standings throughout the season to see which Lions player has been performing the best on a week-to-week basis. Here’s how the standings look now.Game Ball standings through Week 4:(Note: There was a tie between Golladay and Slay last week for third place, so they both got a half-point.) Kenny Golladay - 6.5Devon Kennard - 3Kerryon Johnson - 3Golden Tate - 3Matthew Stafford - 2Frank Ragnow - 2Quandre Diggs - 2Darius Slay - 1.5Da’Shawn Hand - 1Here are the Week 5 candidates:Kenny GolladayStats: 4 catches, 98 yards, 1 TD Womens LeGarrette Blount Jersey , 1 savage stiff armFour catches on nine targets make it look like Golladay had a rough outing on Sunday, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Golladay was dominant; his play was physically imposing, running beautiful routes and creating big play after big play. Had a penalty not negated a 46-yard touchdown, Golladay would’ve finished the week with the second most receiving yards in the league, behind only DeAndre Hopkins.Da’Shawn HandStats: 4 tackles, 1.0 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recoveryIf Da’Shawn Hand hadn’t done anything else on the day, he still would’ve made this list, because this play is just... so... good. Playing nose tackle(!!), facing a double team, Hand splits the offensive lineman, chases down Aaron Rodgers, forces the ball loose, and has the wherewithal to find the ball and flop on top of it. The turnover quite possibly was a 10-point swing. The Packers were driving to get a field goal before the half ended, but Hand gave the Lions good field position and a few plays later, Matthew Stafford pushed the Lions lead to 24. Matthew StaffordStats: 14-for-26, 183 yards, 7.0 Y/A, 2 TDs, 0 INTs, 101.9 QB ratingAs far as Stafford statlines go, this is an extremely underwhelming performance from the Lions quarterback. However, it is a very misleading box score. Stafford was very accurate all game Wholesale Matt Prater Jersey Authentic Elite Limited - Nike Detroit Lions Official NFL Football Shop , and would’ve had two big plays added to his statline had penalties not negated big plays from Stafford. Even without those plays, Stafford was effective and efficient with the ball in his hands. Most importantly, Stafford was near perfect in the red zone, throwing touchdowns on two of his three passes inside the Packers’ 20-yard line. Romeo OkwaraStats: 3 tackles, 2.0 sacks, 1 tackle for loss, 3 quarterback hitsJust watch this and try not to smile.A lot of the Lions’ pressure on Aaron Rodgers was the result of good coverage from the secondary. Unfortunately, the Lions defensive backs really broke down in the second half, and no one played consistently good enough to make this list. So, let’s honor the beneficiaries of that good coverage early. Any time you hit the quarterback three times in a game, it’s a pretty good day, regardless of the circumstances. Okwara was an unpopular pickup at the time, but in four games, he has 3.0 sacks and is racking up a ton of playing time while Detroit waits for Ezekiel Ansah to get back into the game. Those are big shoes to fill, and Okwara is doing a solid job.LeGarrette BlountStats: 12 carries, 22 yards, 2 TDsHaters will point to Blount’s 1.8 YPC and say he had a horrible game, but Blount did what was asked of him. He converted a huge third-and-1, and he single-handedly fixed the Lions’ red zone issues with two goal line touchdowns. It’s also no minor accomplishment that when Kerryon Johnson went down late, Blount took over and didn’t turn the ball over late. It wasn’t a glamorous day for Blount, but he did exactly what the Lions wanted from him when they signed him this offseason.(No, we’re not putting Mason Crosby on this week’s list... mostly because he’d probably win and I don’t want him on the standings all year. Also, don’t be a jerk.)
